The 11th annual Golden Gate Science Olympiad Invitational will take place on Sunday, January 31st, 2027, at UC Berkeley. We have an update on registration and registration fee details.
Registration Timeline and Form
The Tournament Registration Form will open on Saturday, September 19th, 2026, at 12:00 PM PDT. (You can preview the registration form info and questions at this link.)
Registration will close on Saturday, September 26th, 2026, at 12:00 PM PDT. Please note that as of last year, we no longer use Scilympiad for any aspect of the GGSO tournament.
Registration and Waitlist Policies
We will be holding registration on a first-come, first-served basis, with a total of 60 spots available for teams. When registration is open, there will be an initial cap of one team per school and 50 spots available for different schools. If a school would like to register two teams, then its second team will automatically be placed on the waitlist, ordered based on the time at which the first team was registered. Any school that does not register within the first 50 slots will also be added to the waitlist as normal, regardless of whether it has a second team. After registration closes, we will take teams from the waitlist to fill the remaining 10 (and any additional open) spots.
Registration Fee
A registration fee of $305 per team is due Friday, October 16th, 2026. After October 16th, we will offer 50% refunds on registration fees if a team drops. We will not provide refunds to teams that drop after November 20th. Note that registration closes Saturday, September 26th; we will notify schools of their team status within a few days of the registration closing date. If the fee or timeline poses a problem for your team(s), please still register as planned and email us so we can find a solution that works for you!
Homeroom Notice
We have a very limited number of homerooms to offer this year. Teams will be able to stay on outdoor greenspaces and bring their own tables, chairs, and tents, if desired. If your school requires a homeroom to attend GGSO 2027, we ask that you complete this supplemental form, which opens and closes at the same times as the registration form (September 19th at 12:00 PM PDT to September 26th at 12:00 PM PDT). The time you complete the supplemental form will not affect your school’s priority for a spot in our tournament or receiving a homeroom. However, we cannot guarantee homerooms to schools who submit the supplemental form after our registration deadline. (You can preview the homeroom form info and questions here.)
Full Timeline
Saturday, September 19th, 2026, at 12:00 PM PDT – Registration opens
Saturday, September 26th, 2026, at 12:00 PM PDT – Registration closes; team status sent to schools within several days
Friday, October 16th, 2026 – Registration fee deadline; 50% refunds for drops
Friday, November 20th, 2026 – No refunds for drops after this time
